Faouzi is a highly regarded cultural anthropologist, writer and speaker. He has authored several important works
which have been translated into many languages on the subject of Sufism, the
mystical aspect of Islam. Faouzi created the Fès Festival in 1994 after the first Gulf War,
with the intention of bringing people together. In 2000, he founded the intellectual component of the Festival
with the "Giving a Soul to Globalization" Colloquium which examines vital global issues.
The United Nations honored the Festival as one of the seven remarkable events in the world that contribute to
the dialogue of cultures and civilizations. He is a member of the Wise Committee for the European
Commission to advise on matters of education and culture.
